Winona County Judge Nancy Buytendorp granted the change of venue request Wednesday by the defense in the Fravel case, following arguments that potential jurors from the area have heard too much about the death of Madeline Kingsbury, Fravel’s ex-girlfriend.

Kingsbury disappeared in March of 2023, and her remains were discovered weeks later outside of Winona County. A new location for the trial in Minnesota has not been chosen.

Last Friday was the one-year anniversary of the day that Kingsbury’s body was found in the Mabel, Minn., area, following several weeks of searches.
