FOR DECADES, 50-THOUSAND HAS BEEN A MAGIC NUMBER FOR THE CITY OF LA CROSSE.

CITY LEADERS OFTEN POINT OUT THAT KEEPING LA CROSSE’S POPULATION ABOVE 50-THOUSAND MAKES THE COMMUNITY ELIGIBLE FOR ALL SORTS OF GOVERNMENT HELP. THAT’S WHY THOSE LEADERS WANT AN ACCURATE CENSUS COUNT THIS YEAR. TODAY, A SPECIAL COMMITTEE PROMOTING THE CENSUS MET AT LA CROSSE CITY HALL TALKED ABOUT WAYS TO GET PEOPLE TO FILL OUT CENSUS FORMS. JUST FOUR YEARS AGO, LA CROSSE’S ESTIMATED POPULATION WAS LESS THAN 300 ABOVE THE 50-THOUSAND MARK…AND THE POPULATION DROPPED BELOW 50-THOUSAND IN THE 1980’S.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
