Override Attempt Today For Doyle Veto of DNR Bill

This could be a pretty big day for Wisconsin governor Doyle. The governor faces a veto override attempt in an assembly controlled by his party. La Crosse county conservation alliance chair Marc Schultz is hopeful for success on the override attempt. The governor vetoed a bill that would have restored DNR secretary appointment power to the state’s natural resources board. The bill is a big step, says Schultz, towards making the agency more responsive and more accountable to the people. Governors of Wisconsin have had DNR appointment power since the mid nineties. Doyle has long favored giving that power back to the resources board but changed his mind last spring.
