Retiring La Crosse Mayor Says City Is ‘In A Better Place’ Than 4 Yrs Ago

Is La Crosse’s mayor happy that his four-year term is just about over?

Mayor Matt Harter tells WIZM’s Mike Hayes that he’ll be happy to “move on to new things” when his term expires next month.  Harter says the city has cut taxes all four years, while maintaining a high level of government services. Harter says that was accomplished by people working together, although he and the city council have disagreed on several issues. The mayor announced last fall that he would not run in next Tuesday’s election. He says his most memorable moment as mayor was the night he took the oath of office in 2009.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
