Mayo Born Almost 130 Years Ago
3 very destructive tornado’s hit Minnesota 130 years ago yesterday. A day
that will always be remembered to former and current staff and patients of Mayo Clinic Health Systems.
Prior to these tornadoes, there were only three hospitals in the State of Minnesota outside of the Twin Cities. Doctor William Mayo and his two sons took charge of caring for patients. Something Mayo Historian Matthew Dacey says is remembered to this day.
The tornadoes affected parts of Dodge, Olmsted, and Winona counties, and they accounted for 40 fatalities and over 200 injuries.
