Local Rental Rules in Jeopardy After Senate Action
La Crosse’s rental registration process could be in jeopardy. A bill just passed by the state senate could make it illegal for local governments to pose restrictions and standards on landlords that exceed those of the state or federal level, which may include the city’s registration and potentially the current rental conversion moratorium.
La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat. The senate vote comes months after a similar bill passed the state assembly. Those bills will have to be reconciled before they reach the governor’s desk.
