Chancellor Remains Upbeat on Fest, Despite Vandalism

Oktoberfest can sometimes be a messy affair.  You can take as proof the widespread drunken antics that police dealt with over the week-end in La Crosse, including the overturning of three cars near UWL.  Despite that, university chancellor Joe Gow refuses to get too down on the fest, saying that the event is largely a good one celebrating heritage and tradition that happens to involve some excessive drinking at times

Gow says he’s also not keen on the vast open drinking that goes on throughout the day during the fest.
