Some Area Food Pantries Could Run Short During Shutdown

The federal government shutdown could put a strain on food pantries in the La Crosse area…

Some low-income families might not get their food stamps on schedule, so they could visit community food shelves. And pantries such as the Salvation Army could run short of government-supplied food, according to

Shelly Krause with the Hunger Task Force in La Crosse. Her organization does not get federal funding, but she expects a greater demand for the Task Force resources because of government cutbacks.  Julie Nelson at the Salvation Army of La Crosse says her agency’s food supply has not been affected yet by the shutdown.
