Sparta Man Was Going To Shoot Up Police Department

A Sparta man who claimed he was going to shoot up the Sparta Police

Department is in the Monroe County Jail today.

Earlier this week, Monroe County 911 received a call from someone who said that 24 year old Matt Ames from Sparta, was in the Hangout Bar telling people he had a gun and intended on shooting up the Sparta Police Department. The caller claimed to have seen the gun and indicated that Ames appeared drunk. Police found Ames standing outside the bar and saw a handgun concealed in his pants.

Ames was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Handgun where Alcohol is Sold/Consumed, and Operating a Firearm while Intoxicated.
