A Mine of Two Cities

Published

on

Next stop for a new mining operation in Trempealeau county is getting permits.  Not insignificant.  There’s air and water permits.  Zoning issues to deal with.  But easier now that both cities of Whitehall and Independence have annexed land that the Hi-Crush frac sand mine will sit on.   The annexed land comes from the town of Lincoln.  Town board chair Jack Speerstra says he feels better about the move with assurances that have come from Hi-Crush

The Whitehall city council this week voted to annex the mine property.  Independence agreed to the move last week.  The annexations prevent the county’s mining moratorium from killing the project altogether.
