Council President; Trane TIF Unusual
It’s possible that the latest TIF deal in La Crosse wouldn’t meet new city standards for business economic incentives. But negotiations between the city and Trane Company began before those new standards went into effect so the special tax bonding deal is a go. Which is really good for Trane because the TIF will pay for re-tooling and training and things like that. But good for the city? Not in the traditional sense of a TIF district, says city council president Dick Swantz
But Swantz says the eight million dollar deal appeared to be necessary to keep Trane committed to keeping jobs in La Crosse over the long term.
