Lax Firemen Approved To Give Antidote On Drug Overdose Calls

Firefighters in La Crosse are getting special training this month…learning how to supply an antidote to a drug overdose victim.

The city fire department now has permission from Madison to let fire crews administer the drug Narcan, which can block the effects of narcotics like heroin.  La Crosse firefighters have responded to about 200 overdose calls in the last two years, but only paramedics have been allowed to give Narcan until now.

 

 

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
