Too many African-Americans are behind bars, says the first black member of
the Minnesota Supreme Court. Justice Alan Page tells a La Crosse audience that the number of people of color arrested and sent to jail is higher than for other ethnic groups, and he’d like to see that change:
Page says the numbers of white and minority prisoners have become more balanced in recent years…often because drug penalties have increased, so more white offenders are locked up. The justice spoke last night at Viterbo, during the Martin Luther King Day celebration.
