Monroe Co. Driver Challenges Mandatory Prison Time for 7 OWI Arrests

How many times can you be arrested for driving drunk before you face a mandatory prison sentence?

A Monroe County man claims he should have a chance at probation, even after seven OWI convictions. Clayton Williams of Warrens says Wisconsin law does not clearly require prison time for a seventh drunk-driving offense, and his appeal will be heard by the state Supreme Court next week. The judge who sentenced Williams for a 2010 arrest ordered him to spend three years behind bars. State officials agree with Williams that the law is ambiguous.
