Ruptured Tank Brings Out Fire Fighters
La Crosse fire fighters ended up at the Oktoberfest grounds this morning
after calls came in that people were smelling natural gas. Crews digging up the old Xcel Energy plant hit a buried mercaptan tank. In it, an odorant that gives natural gas that eggy smell. May be there for awhile too says Division Chief, Tom Wallerich.
Wallerich said due to the wind carrying the strong smell, calls came in from as far as 6 blocks away.
