West Salem Super Likes Bill To Eliminate 180 Rule

More scheduling flexibility. That’s what a bill getting public hearings would

do for school districts in the state. The bill would eliminate the requirement that districts schedule 180 days of school per academic year but keep in place a requirement of a specific numbers of hours, depending on the grade level. West Salem Superintendent, Troy Gunderson.

Gunderson tells us school districts have long asked for the 180 day requirement to be eliminated, and requests for a waiver after a string of snow days are the most common such requests that schools make to the Department of Public Instruction every year. The Senate bill will not come to a full vote until March 11th.
