Billings Talks Prisoner Shuffle
The La Crosse County jail had more than 200 prisoners this weekend, and
sometimes inmates have to be sent to other counties to ease crowding. There’s a proposal in Madison to allow transfers to nearby jails outside of the state, if using those jails would be closer and cheaper than what’s available in Wisconsin. Jill Billings of La Crosse is supporting the bill in the Assembly:
Billings says Houston County is offering to house some La Crosse inmates in its new jail which opened three years ago.
