Onalaska 4th Of July Celebration Moves Ahead Without Symphony

Onalaska will still celebrate the 4th of July with music and fireworks this summer…but not exactly in the same way as usual.

The city traditionally stages its fireworks on the weekend before the 4th, after an outdoor concert by the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. But this year, the Symphony has withdrawn from the program because of a lack of funding. Kelly Poppele from Festival Foods, which organizes the celebration, says a different musical act has been hired for the June 28th program. The name of the act will be announced in about a month.

 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
