When a branch library in La Crosse was saved from closing last year, Mayor Tim Kabat talked about naming a task force to examine ways of funding the library system.

That task force is now in place, and has its first meeting next Tuesday at City Hall. Library director Kelly Krieg-Sigman says residents of library neighborhoods will serve on the panel, along with city council members.

Customers of the South Branch library protested last fall, when the library board briefly suggested closing the branch on 16th Street under city orders to make large budget cuts.
