First Time Ever; Mississippi Floods 3 Times In One Year
This is a first for La Crosse…
It’s the first time on record that the Mississippi has reached the 12-foot flood stage three separate times in the same year. The first official day of flooding in 2014 was May 4th. The river receded four days later, but was back up to 12 feet on May 17th, and even dropped below 9 feet earlier this month before heavy rain pushed it back to flood level. The National Weather Service says the Mississippi has been above flood stage on 10 days this year, compared to 30 days in the most recent year of severe flooding, 2001.
