WI Supreme Court Will Not Give Perner New Trial In Girlfriend’s Drug Death

The La Crosse man is now in prison for causing the drug overdose death of his girlfriend, Shelby Perkins.  Perner’s bid for a new trial was denied by an appeals court back in February.  He claimed that both he and Perkins bought heroin together from a dealer, but that dealer said he only sold the drug to Perner.  Shelby Perkins died after taking the heroin in May of 2010.  Perner was the first of several people to be convicted in La Crosse County in the last four years for contributing to drug deaths.
