Heroin Deaths Drop In Lax As Narcan Use Goes Up
Narcan seems to have become a household word in the last couple of years, as the drug that’s used for stopping heroin overdoses is being carried by police and firemen in many parts of the U-S.
Tri-State Ambulance in La Crosse gave Narcan to about 30 patients in 2007. That number rose to 130 last year, and it keeps going up, as the use of heroin spreads. Tri-State director Tom Tornstrom says as the use of Narcan increases, local overdose deaths are going down:
Tornstrom believes greater awareness of Narcan may be prompting more people to call 9-1-1 if they know of somebody who seems to have overdosed.
