Dragon Races A Hit On Two Rivers
A change in rivers didn’t seem to matter to dozens of people who rowed special boats in the Big Blue Dragon Race last weekend…
The fund-raiser for Mayo of La Crosse was forced by flooding to relocate to the Black River this year, after being held on the Mississippi its first year. And a co-chair of the event, Lori Freit Hammes, says the smaller river holds some advantages for racing the dragon boats:
Lori believes the Saturday event brought in 80-to-100-thousand dollars for Mayo breast cancer programs. If more teams sign up for future races, she says the contest could expand to two days.
