What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time, the backlog of unclaimed property cases in the Wisconsin state treasurer’s office was about 12 hundred. This year, after having the duties of returning the property given to the department of Revenue, the backlog is up to 73 hundred. Reaction from current state treasurer, Kurt Schuller
Schuller says it’s clear the push to return property isn’t nearly as fervent when the job belongs to a nameless, faceless bureaucracy without any one person being accountable for performance.
