Full Plate For Supreme Court Thursday
The Wisconsin Supreme Court plans to issue a landmark ruling Thursday on the
constitutionality of Governor Scott Walker’s law that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers. The court said it would also release decisions later in the week on cases challenging the requirement of voters to show photo identification at the polls and the state’s domestic partner registry. We asked UW-L political professor, Joe Heim which way he thinks the courts will rule.No matter what happens, state employees would remain under Act-10, which limits union negotiating to pay raises at or below inflation, with no right to bargain for working conditions. The voter ID law won’t have an immediate impact, since a federal judge has already struck it down. And if the US Supreme Court eventually throws out Wisconsin’s gay marriage ban, those couples would no longer need the registry.
