One Dead In Monroe County Wreck

A deadly weekend in Monroe County. Cops say one person was killed and two were seriously injured after a multi car accident east of Tomah, early Saturday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department said 77 year old Roger Beyer from Buffalo Minnesota was driving west on Highway 21 when he crossed over the center line and struck an SUV head on that was being driven by 30 year Michael Abts of La Crosse. 58 year old Daniel Abts from La Crosse, driving a truck and pulling a travel trailer, was able to avoid the car, but was forced off the road into a ditch.

Beyer died at the scene. First responders took his 10 year-old passenger to Tomah Memorial Hospital then transferred the child to Gundersen Health System in critical condition. Michael Abts was flown to Gundersen and remains in serious condition.

The crash is under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office.
