Barge Traffic To Pick Up
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have completed emergency dredging operations
in the Mississippi River. The Corps dredged temporary pilot channels in both Pool 4, between Wabasha and Alma and in Pool 6, near Winona. The channels allowed the U.S. Coast Guard to officially reopen the navigation channel to commercial traffic. It was originally closed July 19th, near Wabasha, and July 23rd, near Winona.
The stoppage caused around 350 barges to sit still for several weeks, delaying shipment of everything from steel to concrete.
