Proposal Would Pay More to City Workers Who Live in La Crosse

Some relatively low cost incentives are being proposed to keep La Crosse city employees living within city boundaries. The city’s executive committee today will consider incentive proposals that include cash payouts for new employees and a pay bump for those living in specific neighborhoods.  The proposal pegs the cost of the incentives for those who live in specific neighborhoods at no more than about 40 thousand dollars based on current wages.  Those incentives would involve, at the most, 33 current employees.  The city is considering the incentives after recent changes in state law that got rid of residency mandates.
