Wreck On Highway 16 Seriously Injures One

A section of Highway 16 in Monroe County was shut down for about four hours

today after police and rescue responded to a crash that involved two semi’s and a van. According to Sparta Police, a van driven by 84 year old Gaylord Gruen of West Salem was going north on Industrial Avenue when it hit a semi heading east being driven by a 45 year old Menomonie man. The semi steered into another semi, trying to avoid the collision. That truck driven by 61 year old John Zupon of Dearbroom Wisconsin…..he was not injured. Gruen had to be freed from his van and was taken by med-link to a La Crosse hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
