Years of abuse accusations against Catholic priests in Minnesota have led to

a settlement of an abuse lawsuit, and promises by the church to do things differently in the future. The Winona Diocese has agreed to follow a list of protocols, as a result of that settlement.  Former area priest Thomas Adamson was accused of abusing a minor in that lawsuit.  He’s one of five surviving men among the 14 Winona diocese priests who were ‘credibly accused’ of abuse in recent decades.  The list of protocols requires the Winona bishop to send a letter of apology to a victim who makes a credible claim of abuse.  The diocese must also prohibit its clergy from traveling alone with an unrelated minor, and it must not publicly display honors against priests found to have abused minors.
