Gun Deer License Sales Lagging; DNR Speculates Snow, Crossbow Season Are Factors
Wisconsin’s gun deer license sales……not where they wre at this time last
year. But the DNR says there are no worries. Numbers released Tuesday show hunters had purchased just over 565 thousand licenses as of Monday. That’s down about 11 thousand from the same point last year. We asked Kevin Wallenfang, DNR big game ecologist if he expects some good spill over from Minnesota hunters who are seeing less anterless tags this year there.
DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp said that deep snow in northern Wisconsin may be one reason behind the slow sales. She also says some hunters may have chosen to participate in the state’s first crossbow season instead. Hunters often wait until the last minute to purchase their licenses.
