Cardinal Thoughts On New Position
The year coming to a close has been a year of change for a former La Crosse
bishop who is now a cardinal. Around Christmas last year, it was announced that Pope Francis might reassign Cardinal Raymond Burke. That change in jobs came last month, when Burke was removed from the Vatican Supreme Court to head the Knights of Malta. Jack Socha from the Shrine of Guadalupe at La Crosse, which Burke founded, considers the cardinal’s new job a continuation of his work with the shrine:
Although Burke has called his removal from the Vatican court a demotion, Socha says that Vatican post goes through a routine rotation every few years.
