Campbell Chief Controversy Tops Local News Of 2014
Our news department’s choice for the top local story of 2014 was no contest…
And ‘no contest’ was the plea that Town of Campbell police chief Tim Kelemen entered in court this summer, to a misdemeanor charge of using the internet to harass a tea party protester. Kelemen’s attorney, Jim Birnbaum, said that when the chief signed up Greg Luce for dating websites and pornography, it followed weeks of harassment by critics of a Campbell law blocking demonstrations on an interstate overpass:
The charge against Kelemen will be dropped after two years, if he stays out of trouble…otherwise, he might do jail time. Luce and others criticized the town board for placing Kelemen on paid leave for five months before he resigned in November, claiming a medical disability because of harassment against him.
