Minnesota Health Plan A First
As of Thursday, Minnesota’s MinnesotaCare health care program has
become the first state program funded under the federal basic health plan under the Affordable Care Act. Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson says the coverage should be inviting to more state residents looking for health care coverage.The MinnesotaCare program began in 1992 as part of the state’s commitment to covering people with low incomes. Under the Affordable Care Act, Minnesota also expanded Medical Assistance, the state’s Medicaid program, and established MNsure, the state’s health insurance marketplace.
