Winona Rail Upgrade Coming
A rail crossing in Winona is among several in Minnesota which could get
improvements soon, as the result of a statewide report on railroad safety. The Highway 43 crossing, about a block from the Winona State University football stadium, actually ranks as the number 7 priority among the list of all the Minnesota crossings along crude oil routes through the state. Minn DOT senior planner Dave Christianson says that Winona crossing is on a busy cross-town street, and a rail accident there could endanger a large population and cause major traffic disruptions. The crossing is expected to be upgraded this summer.
