Gas Price Explosion
Around the 4th of July last year, if you spent 20 dollars on gas at a station
in La Crosse, you probably got a little over five gallons for your money. But today, that same 20-dollar bill would get you 10 gallons at most gas pumps around the city. Gas prices dropped below two dollars in the county late last week…only six months after we were paying 3-70 for a gallon of regular. A glut of gas around the country has helped bring us the lowest prices in six years, and there’s no immediate end in sight. Winona and Rochester have lower prices than La Crosse, and the cheapest gas anywhere in Wisconsin is 1-79 at Kenosha. The Triple-A says gas probably will start going up again in the spring, as travel increases around the U-S.
