In Search Of History

La Crosse has a long history of industries that helped the city grow…from

logging and textiles, to rubber and beer-making. Souvenirs of the city’s history will soon be used to help area artists create unique artworks.  U-W-L student Ariel Reker has found some unusual products with a La Crosse history, such as a set of bookends:

The Bump Pump Company, run by George Bump, made pumps in the 40’s and 50’s.

Later this year, the Pump House will choose a group of artists, and assign each of them a historic item made in La Crosse.  The art pieces inspired by those historic artifacts will be put on display at the art center, and eventually sold.
