UW-L Budget Concerns
The cut that Governor Scott Walker wants to give the UW System, amounts to 13
percent of the state funding for the system and 2.5 percent of the total budget, accompanied by a tuition freeze. That will result in the defunding of scores of departments and jeopardize the livelihood of faculty and graduate students. That according to the President of the UW-L Student Association, Kaylee Otterbacher. And she has other concerns as well.
The governor says in exchange for the cuts, he will be giving the 26 campuses more freedom from state laws and oversight. Otterbacher says that is still to be known.
