Western Technical College Responds To Budget
Under the current budget, the 16 tech schools were given performance
standards which included job placements of graduates, and the numbers of courses tied to the needs of local employers. The standards determined 30% of a school’s state aid. Under the governor’s new budget, they’ll determine 100% of each college’s state funding, phased in over a five year period. Western Technical College President, Lee Rasch says this is not uncommon.
Rasch says he’s not so sure about the 100% funding mechanism though. He says it’s possible that some schools could lose state dollars while higher performing schools can gain an inside track for more state investment in the future.
