Council Says Yes to New Hotel, With Design Waivers

A new hotel now given the green light to proceed in downtown La Crosse.  The city council on Thursday night approves exemptions to downtown building design standards that will allow a Fairfield Inn and Suites to proceed with development with a 92 room, ten million dollar hotel at the foot of the Cass street bridge.  Some on the council were concerned that granting exemptions would set dangerous precedents for building projects in the future.  Construction on the new hotel could begin in as little as sixty days.
