Eagle’s Nest May Delay Track Construction

Might be a bit of a hiccup for Burlington Northern as it readies to build a second set of tracks through the La Crosse River marsh.  A local photographer thinks a bald eagle nest could be close enough to the tracks to warrant a special federal permit for the company to proceed with the their plans.  It also might force a delay of the tracks until the eagles get down with their spring hatch
 
 
 
 
Alan Stankevitz is a member of the group, Citizens ACting for Rail SAfety, which has worked to keep the tracks from getting built.  Despite that, Stankevitz says he’s not pushing a federal permit to delay the project, only to protect the eagles which are now, he says, starting to some maintenance on the nest.
