What To Do With Food Waste
With the success of La Crosse’s expanded recycling program in the last year,
there’s already talk of recycling more stuff. Food, in one case. While city public works director Dale Hexom says talks are very preliminary on food waste recycling right now, some of the logistical details are already getting roughed out. Like what to do with the food waste once it’s collected
Hexom says Gundersen Health System, with all of its green energy initiatives, has already expressed interest in the process. Despite that, he doesn’t envision a massive citywide composting service in place for at least four or five years.
