Passive Houses Available And Are Economical
Three years ago, Western Technical College and Mayo Clinic announced plans
for new ‘sustainable’ homes in a neighborhood near the marsh. One of those ‘passive’ homes already has gone up, and more could be on the way soon. The first one reportedly cost close to 900-thousand dollars to build, but W-T-C president Lee Rasch says future homes of that type won’t be nearly as costly:
Rasch says a passive energy-efficient home might cost 20 per cent more to build than a typical home in La Crosse, but cost savings on energy will be large.
