Warm temperatures, winds, melting snow and currents all affect the safety of
ice. Coulee Region Outdoors owner, Anthony Larson says ice is seldom the same thickness over a single body of water and can be two feet thick in one place and one inch thick a few yards away. Larson tells us that there are some differences when comparing ice thickness.
He says the first thing to watch for when venturing out onto the ice, the shorelines that may be thick in the morning, but slushy or all together gone in the afternoon as long as the temperatures staty warm.
