La Crosse’s board of public works this week refuses to grant an exemption to the city’s work noise rules so construction on a second set of BNSF tracks in the marsh can go on in the early morning or late at night. That refusal was what Rick Kastenschmidt was hoping for. Kastenschmidt lives near the tracks and says the ongoing construction noise during the day is plenty. Although he also supports the double track project as a way to limit noise in the long run
The public works board says the contractor for BNSF can come back in June to ask for the noise exemption again.
