Trees Come Down. New Ones On Way?
La Crosse got its start as a city largely because of the lumber
industry. But many current residents may be upset by seeing dozens of trees cut down in one day, along residential streets. Those trees were taken out on Losey Boulevard this weekend, to keep them all from being destroyed by the emerald ash borer. Soon, the trees will be replaced by other varieties, according to city forestry coordinator Cindy Shireman. And they won’t be tiny trees:
Shireman says State Street might go through a similar mass cutting in one day, but West Avenue probably would not.
