Cash Flows In From Ticket Gates
One year into the ticket gate experiment at La Crosse’s downtown parking ramps, the city has earned 120-thousand dollars from people parking for long hours.
And crews have spent time and money having to fix broken gates. Assistant public works director Bob Haines finds damage to the ticket machines and gates about once a week, and he thinks human error is to blame for many of the problems.
The gates were turned on last April 22nd. They’ve brought in nearly 40-thousand dollars since New Year’s. But Haines says 85 per cent of the drivers don’t stay in the ramps long enough to pay fees.
