Bird Virus Grows
About 5.3 million laying hens in northwest Iowa will be destroyed after tests confirmed a second outbreak of avian influenza in the state. Hundreds of thousands of turkeys and hens have died or been destroyed in Wisconsin. And over 2 million turkeys have died in Minnesota because of the virus.
Joni Scheftel is with the Minnesota Department of Health. She talks about her role in all of this.
She says the virus is capable of killing an entire flock of birds within 48 hours.
