If you want to know why a group in La Crosse has been pushing so hard for a surveillance camera network in the downtown, look no further than the investigation into the death of Robin Krabill.
Surveillance video footage clearly helped police figure out how Krabill fell to her death in an alley off of State street, says Mike Keil from the La Crosse City Vision Foundation. But police were lucky they had private business cameras to look at. Keil says, the new city-operated system will capture many more public spaces
Five proposals for installing the camera system have been received by the foundation. The winning proposal is expected to be picked in a couple of weeks. The whole system should be in use by La Crosse police by sometime this summer.
