Sage Could Be Gone And Nelson Supports It
A program that sees over $2 million pumped into the La Crosse School District every year, may be on the way out. With the district’s support. On Wednesday, the Wisconsin Senate passed a bill 31-2 to phase out Wisconsin’s SAGE program.
District Superintendent, Randy Nelson says the district relies quite a bit on the program.
But Nelson was on the legislative panel last year that helped get rid of the program and applauds a new proposed program, the Achievement Gap Reduction. That program would allow existing SAGE schools to earn aid by implementing tutoring, coaching for teachers or maintaining SAGE classroom ratios. Something Nelson says they would like to do in La Crosse.
